HIT2: Hospital performance measurement at the UAE Ministry of Health

The UAE Ministry of Health (MoH) is embracing the information revolution with an electronic patient record generated by a state of the art health information system. The Wareed project uses links 14 hospitals and 68 primary care clinics.

The accumulation of large quantities of health care information enables the measurement of hospital health service performance. As an initial step 14 performance indicators which had been used in other health care delivery systems and were simple, relevant and validated were identified to cover activity in the outpatient clinic, inpatient care and the accident and emergency department.
