Ain Al Khaleej Hospital, Abu Dhabi, Achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAMSM Stage 6

ABU DHABI, UAE (14 NOVEMBER 2016) – HIMSS Analytics announced today that Ain Al Khaleej Hospital has achieved the HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption ModelSM (EMRAMSM) Stage 6, an international benchmark for the use of advanced IT to improve patient care.

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMRAMSM in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database. There are eight stages (0 – 7) that measure a hospital's implementation and utilization of information technology applications. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0 – 7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents an advanced electronic patient record environment.

“Achieving HIMSS Stage 6 is a major step towards realizing our vision of giving the best patient care and service to the population of Al Ain. Our mission is to advance the quality of our healthcare services by explicitly following the standards defined by certification bodies along with our preferred health information system partner CSC," said Dr. Abdalla Almemari, Vice Chairman and Chief Medical Officer, Ain Al Khaleej Hospital.

  • Computerized physician order entry (CPOE)
  • Closed loop medication administration - 5 rights
  • Structured clinical documentation
  • Clinical decision support system
  • Online automated filmless radiology related processes
  • Intelligent pharmacy inventory and dispensing management
  • Barcoding process for pharmacy items, medication and patient identification

The hospital has implemented the Closed Loop Medication Administration (CLMA) process in order to ensure the 5 rights of Medication administration is followed where patient safety is a primary objective. Nursing care is aided with the defined documentation standards by Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) and other accreditation bodies to ensure the proper documentation during patient care.

“Ain Al Khaleej Hospital has made great progress implementing information technologies on its journey to achieve a near paperless electronic medical record environment. I am confident they will succeed in their efforts to reach Stage 7 soon,” added John H. Daniels, Global Vice President, Healthcare Advisory Services Group HIMSS Analytics.

Ain Al Khaleej Hospital was awarded at the recently concluded UAE eHealth Week 2016.
