King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, National Guard Health Affairs Achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAMSM Stage 6 Award

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA (20 September, 2016) – HIMSS Analytics is proud to announce that King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, National Guard Health Affairs has achieved Stage 6 of the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAMSM).

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Database. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications.

Reaching Stage 6 is a result of focus, good direction and a steadfast commitment from leadership. Stage 6 institutions have established clear goals for improving safety, minimizing errors, and prioritizing IT implementations.

King Abdulaziz Medical City commenced its operations in May 1983 and has a bed capacity of 1,501. Today, King Fahad National Guard Hospital has evolved to be part of the King Abdulaziz Medical City with many other prominent medical centers.

With this achievement, King Abdulaziz becomes the fourth hospital in the Kingdom to achieve Stage 6. There are also two healthcare facilities in Saudi Arabia at Stage 7 of the EMRAM (one at Stage 7 of the EMRAM and the other at Stage 7 of the O-EMRAM).

Responding to this Award, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs and President, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences said, “At the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, we strive to provide the optimum healthcare services to our patients. A key element that supports this mission is the proper implementation of the Health IT infrastructure.”

Eng. Abdulaziz Al Romaih, Executive Director, Information Services Department and Informatics added, “One of our main goals is to implement an integrated Health IT environment that assists the organization in delivering safe, effective and efficient healthcare services. Following the recommendations and benchmarking against HIMSS EMRAM is significantly helping us in pursuing this objective.”

John H. Daniels, Global Vice President, Healthcare Advisory Services Group, HIMSS Analytics validated the facility. Mr. Daniels said, “The Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs has demonstrated its commitment to strengthening its digital strategy by using the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model as its roadmap towards reaching advanced digital health capabilities. The successful validation of King Abdulaziz Medical City Riyadh hospital demonstrates the progress they have made towards achieving their goal. We applaud their efforts and look forward to seeing all of their hospitals achieve Stage 6 and ultimately Stage 7 of the EMRAM.”
