Innovative Technology drives UAE healthcare

Dubai Heath Authority and SEHA, to support HIMSS Middle East Integrated Health Innovations Conference in Dubai as Smart Services, Mobile Health & Big Data top agenda

GCC healthcare leaders and international experts will descend on Dubai later this year to discuss how technology can improve healthcare in ways never imagined before. The HIMSS Middle East Integrated Health Innovations Conference, which is being supported by the Dubai Health Authority and SEHA, will take place at the JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Dubai on 11 to 12 December.

The event, will discuss the benefits of healthcare systems that deliver smart services, but often the IT infrastructure required to operate these cutting-edge systems is inadequate, or simply not in place. So to coordinate a strategic road map, a panel of regional leaders will discuss what they have in place today and how government agencies can pool resources to make that quantum leap and provide the best healthcare services possible.

H. Stephen Lieber, CEO of HIMSS, is confident that the HIMSS Middle East Healthcare Innovations Conference will provide the right platform to bring the necessary professionals together to make smart health potentially a reality for all regional healthcare authorities.

"To support healthcare professionals in the Middle East region at this critical time in its development is very exciting. The standards being set in the GCC are truly world-class. We will bring best practice from all around the world and deliver a programme that provides healthcare professionals in the GCC with the tools to take healthcare to the next level," he said.

Government, hospital and industry leaders will share their progress connecting the hospital, the clinic and the home through an international benchmark called the Primary Care Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (PC-EMRAM). The objective will be to recognise tangible progress being made and award those healthcare facilities which not only achieve but exceed quality standards and raise the industry bar.

"Big Data is the new buzz word and speakers at HIMSS Middle East Integrated Health Innovations will address how big data in healthcare can be used to see the future of a patient's progress from symptoms to cure," added Lieber.

In essence, analytical systems harnessing the power of stored health data compared against volumes of medical research provide patients and clinicians with the knowledge they need to accelerate a patient's recovery and avoid potential complications well before they occur.

"Global experts and leading healthcare organisations will demonstrate how they are using big data to support their decisions generating better outcomes for patients throughout the Middle East," said Lieber.

Market research suggests that per capita health care costs can be reduced by up to 18 percent and reduce care costs for chronic conditions by up to 30 percent through improved treatment and patient empowerment. But it is how healthcare leaders are adopting mobile solutions within their own jurisdictions that is the key to providing smart healthcare.

Leading healthcare institutions will showcase how patient portals have been deployed to enable patient access to appointments, laboratory test results and secure communications with clinicians. Clinicians will also showcase how mobile technologies are enabling them to care for more patients in more places.

As a fitting finale to the two-day conference, the HIMSS Middle East Healthcare Innovations Award Ceremony will take place, recognising excellence in innovative healthcare throughout the UAE and the wider region.
