Breaking Barriers to Interoperable Healthcare

See health information exchange in action at the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™ held in collaboration with Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE). This interactive exhibit will offer hourly tours giving a realistic look at live clinical systems brought by technology vendors that have incorporated standards-based interoperability into their products. Attendees will become the patient and see their health story transformed through improved health information exchange.

The connected demonstration will show systems in action from the perspective of a patient as they visit multiple healthcare providers. These systems will connect seamlessly to show solutions to common health system integration problems by using IHE Profiles. Each tour will show the seamless electronic exchange of secure patient information - improving patient safety, clinical outcomes, and clinician workflow.

IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical need in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.
