Shiraaz Joosub
Senior Information Architect
Sidra Medical & Research Center
Qatar Foundation, Doha, Qatar

Shiraaz Joosub’s session on  6 May – “Prime Source Vendor - Best of Cluster Implementation” - offers a look at directed sourcing using a single / prime source vendor. “This is a new-age approach to sourcing, design, configuring, implementing and making ready for operation a multitude of systems and solutions required for an ‘all digital hospital," said Mr. Joosub in an e-mail interview conducted by HIMSS MiddleEast09 Conference Newsletter. “It is specifically valuable where timelines for delivery are constrained and where the IT organization is not formally formed or mature enough to take the traditional sourcing approach.”

Mr. Joosub has spent six years in the Gulf implementing health information management systems (HIMS). He is now at Sidra Medical and Research Centre (SMRC), which was first announced in June 2004. The facility represents the vision of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Missned. Read the complete article.

The SMRC will work closely with Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) and will serve as a teaching facility for Cornell students.  Though Sidra will be a private facility, it will also coordinate its efforts with Hamad Medical Corporation, the major public healthcare provider in Qatar.

“As an architect, I have been instrumental in developing an enterprise solution of 72 systems that the facility wishes to source and implement, and hence, demonstrate a best of cluster / interoperable solutions,” he said. He has been able to source some of the most highly skilled IT resources across the globe to create the desired seamless environment. “We understand that a directed sourcing approach is a new-age approach to this region and Sidra will become a pilot site.”

Thus, with extensive experience in HIMS implementations in the region, Mr. Joosub brings this expertise to HIMSS MiddleEast09. He will offer an overview of the Greenfield Sidra Project and its overarching IT digital strategy to become a seamlessly integrated system that is user- and stakeholder-friendly where Sidra would become an internationally recognized world-class facility.

“Attendees will have first-hand encounters of directed sourcing and the variables required to deliver a fully digital hospital using a prime source vendor,” he explained. The knowledge he plans to share will help those in his session:

    • Learn how to develop enterprise architecture to support a fully digital hospital with a composite of the best technology has to offer
    • Find innovative ways to source and deploy IT solutions
    • Understand the dynamics behind seamlessly integrated / interoperable systems
    • Identify the risks associated with the traditional versus directed sourcing tender process

“They will leave this session empowered with a new approach to delivering a fully digital hospital.”
